Fincas EL Cerquín del Portillo

This coffee is a family farm consisting a 5 members; Ana Lorena Melghen, Luis Rodolfo Argueta and their three, adult children.

The farm is located in Marcala la Paz Honduras bordering the beautiful El Canopy Chiflador at a height of 1300 and 1400 Meters above sea level.

Named EL Cerquín del Portillo by pilgrims from the municipalities of Santa Ana after they used the area as a place to rest on their pilgrimage to Santa Elena. The Finca is known for it's exquisite coffee alongside their innovative approach to farming, growing many varieties of beans and other flora to explore new flavours and profiles. The farm is divided into 4 sections:

1. Finca el Portillo. An area of one and a half blocks (10.5 sqkm). Coffee varieties of
Bourbon, Maragogipe and Parainema amongst fruit trees.

2. Finca la Peñona. An extension of one block (7 sqkm) of ICATU coffee variety
surrounded by fruit and pine trees.

3. Finca la Presa. With an area of two coffee blocks (14 sqkm) it is a farm
and country house. Crops of Plantain, Cassava, Potatoes, Bananas, and Cane. Coffee varieties of Geisha, Bourbon, IHCAFE90.

4. Finca Caoba. With an extension of two coffee blocks (2.00 mz) surrounded by
Mahogany trees, Orange trees and Búcaros trees.

Our coffee named El Cerquin del Portillo is solely the Maragogipe bean from Finca el Portillo.

The Maragogipe variety is a rare and highly sought after coffee producing a clean acidic body and persisting flavour. Its rarity is due to low productivity, susceptibility to pests and disease and a sensitivity to weather conditions. Its flavours can vary depending on the soil where it grows, and poor soils can produce a coffee with diminished flavours.
